Any substance capable of binding materials together in a functional manner via a surface attachment that resists separation is referred to as an adhesive. Cement, mucilage, glue, and paste are all names that are often used interchangeably to describe any organic material that makes an adhesive bond. We use adhesives in our everyday life. It’s just that we may be unaware of it. From something as simple as a child sticking a piece of paper onto her book using glue, to our talented engineers that work on their machinery using adhesives. What are the types of Adhesives?
ADHESIVES BY CHEMICAL COMPOSITION
Adhesives made of epoxy
The structural adhesive epoxies is a type of epoxies. They may be structurally bound to most sorts of materials, including metals, ceramics, wood, and plastics, and are highly temperature and solvent resistant.
Adhesives made of polyurethane
Polyurethanes are polymer-based adhesives that are utilised in projects that require strong bonding strength and long-term flexibility. They are frequently sold as two-part adhesives and have a wide range of applications. They require moisture to cure, unlike epoxy adhesives, so they can be utilised for jobs where other types of glues are ineffective.
Adhesives made of polyurethane, such as the Adbond EX 5690, that may be painted for a perfect finish, are extremely flexible and can be used in any weather. Polyurethanes are therefore suited for the transportation business.
Adhesives made of polyimide
Polyimides are one-part synthetic polymers with solvents in them. They’re known for their strength, heat and chemical resistance, as well as their ability to work at extreme temperatures of up to 500 degrees Celsius. Thermoset and thermoplastic formulations are available, and they’re commonly utilised for coating and electrical insulation.
ADHESIVES BY PHYSICAL FORM
Adhesive pastes have a high viscosity, making it difficult to spread them throughout the curing process. They’re great for gap-filling adhesions and are normally applied with the use of tools like a caulking gun.

Pellets are often hot melt or thermosetting adhesives in the shape of pellets. These are frequently melted and sprayed after being inserted into a hot melt gun.
